The MPhil Construction Management Programme is a two (2) academic year programme. Within this period, students are required to pass all courses and obtain a minimum of 34 credit hours before graduating. Students who already have a Masters degree certificate in a Construction Management related field will be deemed to have satisfied the 34 credit hour requirement.

Students will also be required to take 16 compulsory modules relevant to the award. These 16 modules are structured such that, 6 examinable and 1 non-examinable modules are taken in the first and second semesters of the first year. One (1) module, the research module is taken in the first semester and continued in the second semester of the second year. In the final semester of the second year, students will be required to continue their research work/dissertation with a series of seminars.

The prerequisite for admission to the course is:

  1. Applicants with Master’s Degree unrelated to Construction Management
  • Applicants shall be admitted to MSc Construction Management First Year after an Interview Session.
  • After the first year, the candidates shall AUTOMATICALLY move to MPhil Second Year after:
    • Achieving a minimum of 70.00 Cumulated Weighted Average.
    • Submitting a researchable thesis proposal and workable programme which are acceptable to the Department.
  1. Applicants with Master’s degree related to Construction Management/ Civil Engineering/ Architecture
  • Applicants shall be admitted to the MPhil Second Year after an Interview Session.
  • Successful applicants may be required to audit some construction related courses depending on the applicant’s background and research interest.
  1. MSc Construction Management Candidates Transferring to MPhil Construction Management:
  • After the first year of the MSc Construction Management programme, the candidates shall be required to:
    • Put in an application to the Head of Department requesting a transfer from MSc Construction Management to MPhil Construction Management.
    • Have achieved a minimum of 70.00 Cumulated Weighted Average.

Submit a researchable thesis proposal and workable programme which are acceptable to the Department.

Graduates from the programme on completion will occupy senior level positions as Researchers, Lecturers, and Assistant Lecturers etc. in both private and public academic and research institutions in Ghana with mandates stretching to the construction industry. Their employment prospects can also be stretched to cover large construction firms who invest in Research and Development (R&D), Human Capital Training and Development, Real Estate Developers and NGOs.
