The Department of Construction Technology and Management is pleased to introduce its newest postgraduate offering, the MSc. Cost Engineering and Management, set to commence with the upcoming academic intake. The programme has been developed to meet the increasing demand, both locally and internationally, for professionals capable of providing rigorous financial stewardship across the lifecycle of construction and infrastructure projects.

Cost remains one of the most decisive factors in the success or failure of any construction undertaking. From initial feasibility studies to final account settlement, the ability to accurately estimate, monitor, and control costs determines whether a project delivers on its promise or falls short of expectations. It is this critical function that the MSc. Cost Engineering and Management seeks to strengthen, producing graduates capable of exercising sound financial judgement and technical precision at every stage of project delivery.

The curriculum has been structured around the core pillars of modern cost engineering practice, including cost estimation and budgeting, whole life-cycle costing, cost control systems, risk-informed financial planning, and the application of digital technologies in cost management. Students will also be exposed to contemporary procurement and contractual frameworks, equipping them to manage cost implications arising from varied project delivery models.

Admission into the programme is open to graduates and professionals from quantity surveying, construction management, engineering, and other related backgrounds who wish to deepen their technical competence in project cost matters or transition into specialized cost engineering and consultancy roles. Upon completion, graduates may pursue careers as cost engineers, cost consultants, quantity surveyors with advanced specialization, project cost controllers, or financial advisors within construction and infrastructure organizations.

The Department of Construction Technology and Management regards the introduction of this programme as a timely and necessary response to industry demand, and welcomes enquiries from prospective applicants interested in joining the first intake.
